For fans of the Ghostbusters franchise, and lets be honest every single one of us has pretended to hold a proton pack in our hands at one time in our life, the news that Peter Venkman himself has shredded up the new script for Ghostbusters 3 will be massively disappointing news.
According to The National Enquirer, I know it's not the most reliable of sources, Murray had been sent the latest version of a script for Ghostbusters 3, co-written by original stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, with his reaction apparently not exactly favourable.
Murray reportedly shredded the script, re-packaged it and mailed it back to Aykroyd and Ramis along with the following note: "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts."
This represents a significant blow to Aykroyd's hopes of getting the new film off the ground with Sigourney Weaver having recently expressed an interest in returning to the cast but only if Murray was put in place to play Venkman. Aykroyd seems particularly inspired and enthusiastic about making a return to the franchise and only time will tell to see if he delivers a new script that Murray will approve of.
There have been rumours for almost two decades now that the Ghostbusters 3 will finally come to our screens. Aykroyd originally wrote a potential third script for the series in the mid 1990s, which was ultimately used for the Ghostbusters Video Game with the actor later admitting that while the studio was interested the original cast members were not.
Since then various other rumours have floated around which have included Ben Stiller joining the cast and Seth Rogen and Steve Carell replacing the older Ghostbusters and younger and fresher characters.
Over the last 18 months the film seems to have gathered some more momentum but these latest news will be a huge blow for fans of the franchise.
