When news broke back awhile ago about the news of The Karate Kid being remade, a part of my childhood died. When they announced that Will Smith was producing and that his son Jaden would be the new 'Kid', I gained some semblance of hope. When they announced Jackie Chan as Mr. Miyagi, I was ready to purchase my ticket.
So now, People Online has released the first photos from the movie that is set to be released next summer, June 11, 2010. The official website is also operational, but only has a countdown clock and links to befriend the site on Facebook.
The Karate Kid is a remake of the hit 1984 film which starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita as Daniel "Daniel-san" LaRusso and Mr. Keysuke Miyagi, respectively. The movie was originally supposed to be called The Kung-Fu Kid, but decided to go back to its original title. I, for one, think that keeping the original name was a good move, because there will be a doofus who would have screamed "rip-off" if Sony had've went with The Kung-Fu Kid. Not to say that they won't do the same thing for this one.
