Empire magazine have today revealed the latest picture from Ridley Scott's forthcoming Alien prequel, Prometheus. It shows Michael Fassbender's character stumbling around and coming across a rather nasty kind of space thingy, whilst holding an exceedingly bright torch that could easily take your retinas out if you stared at it for too long, I reckon.
Rumour has it that a trailer for Prometheus will be released towards the end of this festive week, meaning that within the space of 7 days we have seen the trailer for this, The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises. Not too shabby if you ask me.
Scott recently talked to the Icelandic film site Filmophilia and revealed that the first link between Prometheus and Alien isn't until the end of the third act and he believes that the film most comparable to the film will be 2001.
The Sci-Fi flick will star Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron with filming having begun in March 2011. Scott has confirmed that the events of the film will not preced any of the previously established characters or story lines from the Alien franchise.
It will instead focus on the mythology of the Alien universe and will be set in the late-21st century, exploring the advanced civilization of the extraterrestrial race who are responsible for the origins of modern humans on Earth. This will include the Alien creature who first made an appearance in the 1979 film.
Prometheus is being directed and produced by Scott, with Walter Hill and David Giler joining him in producing duties. The script has been written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof and it is due to be released on June 8th 2012.
Will Prometheus live up to expectation? Has the inclusion of Scott cooled any nerves you had about the piece? Or should the Alien franchise have been left alone?
