So it hasn't even reached a decade for both remakes of two classic horror films and there are about to be remade yet again...
While news of a new 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is kind of old, the news of a new 'The Amityville Horror' remake is fresh on the remake oven. The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, who produced and financed the 2005 remake starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, plan on remaking the movie instead of going with a sequel. Their reasoning? That's as cryptic as the ending of The Matrix Trilogy. But Bloody-Disgusting, who broke the news, states that there might already be a director lined up, but no name was given.
In old news, the rights to 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' were scooped up by Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, who are planning on remaking the franchise with the first film to be under the Twisted Picture moniker, in 3D and set in modern times. The 2003 remake and its prequel were set in the early 1970s and late 1960s, respectively.
The original 'Amityville' spawned off two theatrical sequels (the first sequel was actually a prequel of sorts), a made for TV movie starring Patty Duke, and a slew of direct to video films, the last being 'Amityville Dollhouse'. The original film was based on the true story of the Lutz Family and their haunting ordeal during their 28 day stay at 112 Ocean Drive was chronicled in the book of the same name. It is iconic with its ad campaign ("For God Sakes, GET OUT!") and the infamous house that looks like it actually has a face of demented evil. The original film starred Margo Kidder, James Brolin, and Rod Steiger.
