With The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit and Prometheus each releasing a trailer over the Christmas period it is easy to forget about the forthcoming summer release of Mark Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. But to remind you that Peter Parker and friends will be back in our lives very soon, Sony has released a couple of new pictures from the film on to the web.

These new images focus mainly on Peter Parker, who is being played by the Social Network and Lions For Lambs star Andrew Garfield, and his early days as the web-shooting hero. Pete is seen discovering his new found powers and playing some high school basketball in a very similar fashion to Teen Wolf, just with a little bit less hair.

There is also a nice, close look at the mechanical web system he'll be using, a switch back to the character's roots before more recent comic runs - and Sam Raimi's cinematic version - has them as organic developments.

Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey also features, looking rather studious as does her police chief father George Stacey, being played by Denis Leary. Disappointingly there are no new images of Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors, whose scientific tinkering leads him to become this movie's ultimate villain in The Lizard.

Alongside Garfield, Stone, Leary and Ifans, Sally Field and Martin Sheen will star as Peter's Auntie May Parker and Ben Parker respectively with the film's synopsis telling us that Peter Parker spends his days trying to unravel the mystery of his own past, until the day the he discovers a secret his father held that will ultimately send him down the path of becoming "Spider-Man."

The Amazing Spider-Man will be directed by 500 Days Of Summer head honcho Marc Webb, will be produced by Avi Arad from a script by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves.

It will hit our screens on July 3rd 2012.
