Little has been heard from Precious director, since his ultra sad and depressing yet uplifting and inspiring tale of an obese gal took the cinematic world by storm, but with his civil rights march drama Selma being stuck in development hell he has moved full steam ahead by shooting sultry thriller The Paperboy. And now voila, here is the first poster for the film.
Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron are the leading actors in the films, with the script being adapted by Peter Dexter from his own 1995 book.
The premise for the film is that McConaughey is a reporter investigating the possible wrongful conviction of a man sitting on death row, John Cusack. The newspaperman ropes in his wayward brother, Efron, to help with the job, but the younger man ends up falling for a beautiful woman, Nicole Kidman, who has courting danger by writing passionate letters to Cusack. Suffice to say, it all becomes tangled up in a twisty mystery of sex, violence and bad decisions.
The poster can be seen below in all it's glory.
The poster is rather beautiful in it's design and differs from the usual floaty head style and has been patterned after the novel itself. It's evocative and shoves the cast front and centre and there is a strong promise that the film will be something better than your usual thriller fare.
The film's stellar cast includes Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack, Matthew McConaughey, Scott Glenn and David Oyelowo and even though there's no set release date for The Paperboy we can expect to see the film at some point in 2012.
Efron will have a busy 2012 which includes four other films that are The Lucky One, Liberal Arts, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and the untitled Ramin Bahrani Film, so expect to see his pretty mug blazoned all over the place.
