Pride and Prejudice and Zombies — Natalie Portman Cast
If you haven’t read Seth Grahame-Smith’s update of the classic Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice, then you certainly need to. Pride and Prejudice was one of the smartest and wittiest pieces of literature of 2009, and not just because of its novelty. The added zombie storyline only accentuated the themes Austen was trying to convey in her original novel, and it made the book a must-read for both geeks and bibliophiles alike.
Now, there’s going to be a film version of the novel. Lionsgate is distributing the film, which is produced by Donnie Darko director Richard Kelley, among others. On Friday, a new producer and a star was added to the lineup for the film, which will presumably be released in 2011 or 2012.
Natalie Portman, star of films such as the Star Wars prequel trilogy, V for Vendetta, and The Other Boleyn Girl, will be producing the film, and will also appear as Elizabeth Bennet, the katana-weilding protagonist of the updated novel, who combats the “unmentionables” with her combat skills, along with being courted by the iconic Mr. Darcy.
I can’t wait to see this new film, and the addition of Portman only makes the prospects of the film being very good even better.
