With the past seven days seeing the arrival of several trailers, with each one being as strong as the last and good enough to almost make you forget about Christmas, the latest instalment of the Underworld: Awakening has released some more footage for us to divulge.

The film sees Kate Beckinsale putting on her skin tight lycra suit one more time to play the vampire warrior Selene, who breaks out of her long-standing imprisonment to find the Vampires and Lycans temporarily united by a common foe ... man. Those dastardly villains.

The new trailer allows us to take a closer look at India Eisley's character Eve, a hybrid child whose existence could spell the end for both of the posse's, as well as the ever so fearsome-looking mega-Lycan.

You can view the trailer below ...

The trailer is full of over the top explosions and dizzying quick-cuts which we have come to expect from the Underworld franchise and Selene shows off her true bad as nature in it's entirety.

Underworld: Awakening will be the fourth film of the Underworld series and the second sequel after Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was the prequel to the original Underworld and Underworld: Evolution serving as the first sequel.

Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are directing the film from a screenplay by Len Wiseman, John Hlavin and Allison Burnet with Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Len Wiseman and Richard Wright producing.

Kate Beckinsale will be reprising her role as Selene while Sandrine Holt, Michael Ealy and India Eisley have been cast in new roles for the series. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia on the RED EPIC digital camera in 3D and is due to hit cinemas on January 20th 2012.

Will this be a fresh start for the Underworld series? Or has the franchise run it's course?
