This week has already seen the release of the trailers for The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit and now it has treated us to the very dark and scary looking first glimpse of Ridley Scott's Prometheus. You can head over to the Apple Trailers website for a gander if you are that way inclined. And let's face it, we all are.
Taking huge inspiration from the original trailer for Sir Ridley's first Alien feature, especially the way in which the title slowly unveils itself to us, it offers us up the first moving images of Scott's summer blockbuster, with the film's scope, scale and epicness already on another level to Alien, while still providing us with enough of a familiar feel to not feel too different.
Like any good teaser trailer it offers us more questions than it does answers. Who is the unfortunate member of the crew to get their helmet covered in acid? Why is Noomi Rapace screaming in agony at the trailers conclusion? Why is Charlize Theron running down the corridors of the ship? What are each of the crew members staring at?
Of course the huge space ship that crashes at the end of the trailer seems eerily familiar, and with it seems to confirm that Prometheus will cover the mythology of the earlier films.
For those of you interested, Prometheus is the prequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi classic Alien and will star Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, Michael Fassbender as an android named David, Idris Elba as Captain Janek as well as Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Charlize Theron and countless other scary little blighter's who are destined to cause harm to the crew.
The film is due to be released on June 8th 2012. For those of you interested, the original trailer for 1979's Alien can be seen below.
