Ewan McGregor's latest film, Salmon Fishing In The Yemen has today unveiled it's latest trailer to promote the film. The film is the story of a Yemeni sheik, played by Amr Waked, who has the visionary plan to introduce salmon fishing in the Yemen. Ewan McGregor will play Fred Jones, a lowly fisheries scientist in the British government, who thinks the scheme is ludicrous, but has the issue forced upon him but the Prime Minister's super-keen press secretary Bridget Maxwell, played by Kristin Scott-Thomas.
The film is being adapted from Paul Torday's novel, which was published in 2006 and the trailer seems to emphasize the blossoming relationship of McGregor's dull bureaucrat and Emily Blunt's Harriet Chetwode- Talbot, who is acting as the sheikh's consultant on the project. The novel was written in epistolary form, as a collection of emails and diary entries and documents, but the trailer implies that the film will not be following the same path. Which is probably a good thing as that would involve using voice-over, which immediately renders a film lazy. Ask Robert McKee. Seriously.
Salmon Fishing In The Yemen will be directed by Lasse Hallstrom, the Swedish director who made the 1996 Oscar nominated film, The Cider House Rules. The script has been written by Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar winning scribe of Slumdog Millionaire and has been produced by Paul Webster and Nicky Kentish Barnes, who have been involved in The Motorcycle Diaries and Eastern Promises.
The film was shot in London, Scotland and Morroco and premièred at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. It is due to released in the United Kingdom on March 9th 2012 with a release date for the US yet to be confirmed.
