Wow! Like the proverbial buses arriving in tandem, The Hobbit has followed hot on the heels of The Dark Knight Rises and decided to release a trailer just in time for christmas.

Fully titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, this teaser trailer comes in at just over 2 minutes and is filled with plenty of nostalgic shots and characters that instantly take our mind back to The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

The Hobbit is of course an adaptation of the 1937 novel by J.R.R. Tolkein and a prequel to the above mentioned LOTR trilogy. It has been directed by Peter Jackson, after first choice Guillermo del Toro dropped out due to a hectic schedule, however it has been written by Messrs del Toro and Jackson as well as Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, with Walsh, Jackson and Carolynne Cunningham producing.

The trailer can be seen below ...

So, Ian Holm has returned as an elderly Bilbo revealing to Frodo that he might not have been entirely truthful the first time he told him of his adventures. Then we see Martin Freeman as a young Bilbo with Gandalf, Ian McKellen, inviting him on a quest with several dwarves which are led by the sinister Thorin, who leads the troop in a singing an eerie song about The Misty Mountains.

The trailer is filled with glorious shots of Middle Earth/New Zealand, with the Kiwi tourist board all ready in raptures about the tourists this latest instalment is bound to bring in and is rounded off with the returning Gollum proclaiming "my precious."

All in all a pretty mouth watering teaser trailer that has definitely whet the appetite for this first part of The Hobbit double bill. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is out on December 14th 2012 with The Hobbit: There and Back Again released the following year.
